Goat Cheese Spread
Sometimes the most amazing things can be super simple! This easy Blueberry Balsamic Goat Cheese Appetizer comes together in less than 15 minutes and is an impressive dip perfect for serving at your holiday party.
If you are looking for a last minute recipe for your party, this is a must try! A reduction of blueberries, honey, rosemary and balsamic vinegar is poured over a whipped goat cheese and cream cheese mixture for the perfect blend of sweet and savory.
Goat Cheese Appetizer
From Airfryer Honey Goat Cheese Balls and Pomegranate Goat Cheese Crostini to this Blueberry Balsamic Goat Cheese Appetizer, goat cheese is always a winning bet in my book.
I have found that most people tend to have a love or hate attitude about goat cheese. I also discovered that many people who hate it have made their minds up about it before ever trying it.
At a party a few years ago, I actually served goat cheese to some ladies once and they loved it. When they asked what it was, one of the ladies threw up her arms and said she HATED goat cheese and refused to eat any more…despite having previously said she loved it! You can’t win them all.
Blueberry Reduction
It really doesn’t get much easier than this recipe. Simply toss the frozen or fresh blueberries in a small saucepan and add the rosemary, honey and balsamic vinegar.
Let it cook on medium for 10 minutes while stirring occasionally. If your blueberries aren’t particularly sweet or you just prefer a sweet taste, you can add an additional teaspoon of honey to sweeten it up.
How to Make Blueberry Goat Cheese
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, beat the goat cheese and cream cheese together. I did this using whipped cream cheese and a fork. You could also use a hand mixer if your cream cheese is stiffer.
If you are concerned your guests aren’t big goat cheese fans, you could use more cream cheese and less goat cheese. You could actually use just plain whipped cream cheese if you really don’t want to risk serving goat cheese at all.
Spread the goat cheese mixture over a small plate and top with the blueberry mixture that has been allowed to cool for a bit. Serve the dip with some crusty French bread or crackers.
Alternatively, if you want to make things a bit more presentable, you could take the time to spread the goat cheese mixture over each toasted slice of French bread and top with a dollop of blueberry mixture. This would make for a beautiful crostini that is perfect for a passing appetizer.
Can I make blueberry goat cheese ahead of time?
I often get asked whether or not you can prepare this blueberry goat cheese in advance of a party. The answer is YES!
While the combination of chilled whipped goat cheese topped with a warm blueberry reduction is absolutely amazing, you can certainly serve it entirely cold.
Alternatively, you can make the goat cheese and blueberry mixture ahead of time and store them separately. Right before you put out your appetizers for your party, spread the goat cheese on a small plate and quickly warm the blueberries in the microwave for a minute before pouring them over the goat cheese.

I made this for my book club. Everyone raved about my “fancy” snack. Usually have cookies or bars. This is pretty to present and so much easier. Glad I looked for something with fresh berries, since I had them. I garnished with fresh chocolate mint herbs. Perfect combo! Thanks for this recipe!
Danielle Green says
So glad your book club loved it Ginny!

Hi Danielle. Silly questions, but I’m thinking of making this for a get together this Saturday, sounds simple and really good especially being summer with yummy blueberries. Is the crushed rosemary fresh or dried? And is the balsamic the dark version or have you tried with white balsamic (white is sweeter)? Thank you!
Danielle Green says
Hey Tina, the rosemary is dried and I have only ever made it with traditional dark balsamic vinegar.
Tina says
Thanks! Another question: have you or other readers tried adding a bit of cooked, chopped bacon for a salty/savory layer?
Bailey says
How do you suggest doing this if you need to make the night before and won’t have access to a stove at the party?
Danielle Green says
I would make the entire recipe, but just hold off on pouring the blueberries over the goat cheese until right before serving. Just bring them in a separate Tupperware container. You could just bring it all made up, but I do think that it wouldn’t look as great.
Kathleen says
Made this for a get together tonight. I hope everyone likes it. ??
Gail says
Should the blueberry mixture be runny? Because mine is. I used frozen blueberries.
Danielle Green says
It’s not the end of the world if it is runny, but I’d cook it a little longer next time so it tightens up more.
Nanette says
What other cheese can you use besides goat?
Danielle Green says
Feta would also be good but you could also just use more cream cheese!
Judy says
What would you use if Rosemary is not available
Danielle Green says
Basil or thyme would also be good!
Andrea says
When should I add the salt? I don’t see that in the instructions
Danielle Green says
Thanks for pointing that oversight out! I updated the recipe to include the instructions that you should add the salt with the blueberries.
Jillian says
This was absolutely delicious. Such a hit with everyone in the family! We served it with plain pita crackers.
Danielle Green says
Happy to hear your family enjoyed it Jillian!
Jayne says
Long how long does the blueberry mixture last? Like how many days in advance can I make the sauce and then heat it the day off
Danielle Green says
The blueberry sauce can be made a few days in advance.

LEA says
Have you tried this with other berries? Was thinking maybe strawberries or blackberries.
Danielle Green says
I recently made a version of this with rhubarb, so I am confident that any berry would work great! If you used strawberries, maybe try a different herb like basil?
Genevieve Gibson says
When you used rhubarb did you alter any of the ingredients/measurements?
Danielle Green says
This is the recipe I ended up with for the rhubarb version,
1 c. chopped rhubarb
2 Tbsp. water
2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
1 Tbsp. honey
1/8 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract (stir in after it is cooked)
Karen says
What kind of crackers would you suggest?
Danielle Green says
I would use a hearty wholegrain cracker
Sarah says
Does the salt get added to the blueberry mixture? I can’t seem to find where it is mentioned in the instructions.
Danielle Green says
yes!
Breanne Wieske says
Can you make this ahead of time and then warm the blueberry sauce up?
Danielle Green says
Yes!
