Protein Smoothie Booster
Let’s talk protein powders for a minute. I have tried quite a few. Whether I mix them in a blender, with fruit or even add chocolate, so many of them seem to taste like you are downing a big glass of chalk with artificial sweetener. I just can’t do it! I refuse to eat things that taste like absolute crap in the name of health. I would much rather hide healthy ingredients in things that taste amazing like these Cranberry Almond Energy Bites.
Despite having mostly terrible experiences with protein powders, I refused to give up in finding one that tasted decent. As I was shopping at my local food coop I noticed a new variety they were carrying, Naturade Vanilla 100% Whey Protein Booster. The thing that caught my eye about this particular protein powder was that it was very low in carbs, as in only 1 carbohydrate per serving.
I figured it would be another $25 I would be throwing down the drain, but I decided to give it a try nonetheless. To my shocking surprise, it not only tasted decent, but it actually tasted pretty darn good!
After the discovery of this protein powder I loved, I went into high gear making smoothies. I would toss some frozen fruit, coconut milk, chia seeds, flaxseed meal and protein powder in my Ninja blender and I had a great pick-me-up to get me through my mid-afternoon slump.
I quickly found the process cumbersome and realized I was adding the same dry ingredients each time but having to pull out multiple containers and measure each time. I am all about efficiency in the kitchen, so this issue needed to be dealt with ASAP!
The solution was obviously this Protein Smoothie Booster! I started researching different super foods and came up with this blend of high protein and low carb mix. If you aren’t concerned with carbs, you could also add some ground oatmeal to the mix for more fiber. Hempseeds would make another great addition as they are rich in protein.
Just add 1/4 c. of this mix to your fruit smoothie, shake, or just plain milk for an easy protein packed beverage. One serving boasts 15g of protein, 2g of fiber and only 4g of carbs and 5g of fat.
My personal favorite is a mixture of strawberries, coconut mil and a little spinach but in a pinch, just plain coconut milk and this Protein Smoothie Booster is still delicious. Make up a batch and store in your refrigerator for an easy boost to just about any beverage!
