I was shopping at my local grocery store, Graceville Country Market, and they got a new product in that I had to try. They are called Lady Finger Bananas and they are a little different than your typical banana. They have a bit firmer texture and slightly sweeter taste, but most impressive of all, is that they don’t brown after slicing them! Once I got my hands on these bananas, I knew I had to whip up something amazing with them. That is how these Ultimate Banana Split Dessert Nachos were born.
They start out with a sheet pan full of cinnamon sugar chips and are topped with Neapolitan ice cream, whipped cream, fresh fruit, chocolate sauce and pecans for the ultimate dessert, perfect for a crowd! You get all the great flavors of a banana split in these quick and easy nachos.
An easy make-ahead tip for these nachos, is to scoop your ice cream onto a sheet pan and freeze it beforehand. This not only makes whipping up the nachos take mere minutes, but it also freezes the ice cream harder so it lasts longer before melting. Not that these nachos will stick around long, because your party guests are sure to devour them in no time!
I used a tub of Neopolitan ice cream because it incorporates all three flavors you find in banana splits, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. You could certainly by smaller containers of each flavor of ice cream, but this is by far the most practical option.
It’s that dreaded time of year on the farm around here, rock picking season. Well, technically it’s FORMERLY dreaded for me. Now that I am a grown adult, I don’t have to partake in the dirty, awful work. We hire young kids from town to do that! 😉 It was a particularly hot and humid day last week while the kids were picking rock and I thought I would treat them to some of these Ultimate Banana Split Dessert Nachos.
When they swung by the house over their lunch break, I brought out a cool pan of these nachos with some plates and forks. This recipe was more than enough for the 8 hard workers with big appetites. They scarfed up the nachos and unfortunately for them, had to head back into the field. I on the other hand got to enjoy a small plate of them in the comfort of my air-conditioning. 🙂
If you are wanting to make these for your family and don’t need such a large serving, just split the recipe in half. As it stands, the current recipe will serve about 12 people for dessert. That’s what makes it such a great party recipe that is oh so easy!

What an amazing dessert idea! I’ve never heard of those Ladyfinger bananas before. I’ll have to keep my eye out for them. And what is rock picking season? Does it involve picking up all the rocks in the fields?
Danielle Green says
Yes, that is exactly what it is unfortunately. When I was a kid I used to think once we picked the rocks in one field we’d never have to pick them again. And then I learned a difficult lesson about geology… lol ?
