Ham & Cheese Butter Swim Biscuits

These decadent Ham & Cheese Butter Swim Biscuits are tender and buttery buttermilk biscuits are studded with pockets of sharp cheddar, leftover ham, garlic and chives for an absolutely delicious breakfast or brunch recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 stick salted butter
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar, cubed
  • 2 cups diced ham
  • 1/4 cup diced chives
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F.
  2. Add the butter to a 10 inch cast iron skillet or deep 9x9 pan. Place in the oven for 5 minutes while the oven is preheating, until the butter is melted.
  3. Meanwhile, mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl and mix in the ham, cheese and chives. Mix in buttermilk just until combined. Do not overwork.
  4. Spread the dough over the butter and using a pastry cutter or knife, slice the biscuits into 8-10 pieces.
  5. Bake the biscuits at 450° for 20-30 minutes until tops are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the biscuits to rest for a 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
